I am from the Netherlands, where it is colder than here in Toyoake, Japan. So, I am still surprised about the variety of fruits that grow here around Christmas time. Below, I just show a number of pictures made around Fujita Health University.

Figure 1. Persimmon (kaki) near the Shinto shrine (間米八幡社, Magome-Hachimansha) at the southwest end of Fujita Health University. The persimmons are overripe and many have already fallen to the ground, but it is still a beautiful sight.
Figure 2. Another bush near the Shinto shrine (間米八幡社) at the southwest end of Fujita Health University. I don’t know the name of this plant and I think the berries are not edible, but I will ask someone.
Figure 3. At the strawberry farm, next to the Shinto shrine at the southwest of Fujita health University, they told me that the strawberries will only be ready for sale this year on January 4th. They were so kind to let me take a picture already. As many of you know, these strawberries are delicious.
Figure 4. Behind the parking-place west of Fujita Health University (not far from the strawberry farm) a farmer seems to be planting new trees from branches. Of those, this one is the only one with an orange, which I wonder may have a biological or only symbolic function. Although I don’t understand it, I think it is an interesting image for sharing here.
Figure 5. Bordering the northern parking place of Fujita Health University, this small farm has a tree with giant pears (I don’t know the name) and a tree with very small mandarins (maybe “kishu mikan”) besides each other.
Figure 6. The pears shown in Fig. 5.
Figure 7. The very small mandarins (maybe “kishu mikan”) shown in Fig. 5.
Figure 8. This fruit is called snake gourd (karasu uri) and is found in the hedge bordering the northern parking place of Fujita Health University. Unfortunately, these fruits seem not to be edible. The white flowers of these plants are said to come out only in the dark.
Figure 9. In the same hedge bordering the northern parking place of Fujita Health University, also these bushes with red berries are found. I don’t know the name and doubt that they are edible.
Figure 10. Also, in this hedge bordering the northern parking place of Fujita Health University, these bushes with blue berries are found. Again, I don’t know the name and doubt that they are edible.
Figure 11. At the far edge of the northern parking place, close to the canal, this orange tree is growing.
Figure 12. Besides the orange tree, shown in Fig. 11, grows this lemon tree. In the background you can see Fujita Health University.
